How Bongo works

Six tabs, one rule everywhere: nothing turns red, nothing shames you. The fastest way to learn it is the demo, which drops you into the app on sample data with no account. This page is the written version.

Now

The front page holds a capture bar and your very next physical action. Type or speak a thought into the bar and it lands in your tasks before it can escape. Each open task shows its next unchecked step, so "work on the report" appears as "open last week's doc".

Tasks

Tasks live in four soft buckets: today, soon, someday, and not now. There are no due dates and nothing is ever overdue; a today task that didn't happen simply stays until you move it, with no visual punishment. Each task can carry an energy tag (light, steady, deep) so you can pick work that matches the brain you have right now, an if-then cue ("when I put the kettle on"), and a note.

Break it down for me

The step that matters most is the first one. Bongo's helper turns a task title into three to seven concrete steps, and the first is always something physical that takes under two minutes: open the folder, put shoes by the door, write one sentence. Every account gets 20 helper calls a day at no charge; the offline "simple starter" templates cover email, calls, cleaning, errands, and more without any network at all.

Calendar

The one place in Bongo with real dates, kept for appointments: commitments to be somewhere, not tasks competing for attention. Type or say "training with Chase 6pm Wednesdays" and the helper turns it into entries you approve before anything is added. Past appointments fade instead of turning red, and .ics files from other calendars import cleanly.

Projects

For anything too big to be one task, a project is a small workspace: a board with columns you name, a dated notebook, saved links, and a file drawer. Cards move by tapping arrows, which works the same on a phone as on a desktop, and there are still no due dates on the board.

Any card can become a task, and the two stay linked, so checking it off your list marks it done on the board. The file drawer takes photos, sheets, decks, text, and audio into folders; those bytes stay on the device that added them and never sync. One search box over the whole project reads every card, note, link, and filename, so the place you plan a move or a job hunt is also where you find that receipt three weeks later.

Routines

A routine is a shape, not a script: a skeleton of slots with room for choice inside. Running one never auto-advances, every slot is skippable, and stopping partway is a normal ending, not a failure.

You

Themes and undertones (calm in the light, calm in the dark), text size, motion and sound switches, tab hiding, the guide, and your data: export everything as one JSON file, import it anywhere, no lock-in. Signing in adds sync between devices, and the encryption section lets you seal synced content under a passphrase only you know.

It installs like an app

Bongo is a PWA: add it to your phone's home screen from the browser menu and it opens full-screen and works offline. The working copy is already on your device, so offline is the normal case, not an error.
